The owner of a north Norfolk fish and chip shop which was forced to close after a devastating fire has said he hopes to reopen "as soon as possible".

Stevenson’s Fish Bar, in Sheringham High Street, was “completely gutted” when a chip pan caught fire in July this year.

Two members of staff managed to escape the blaze, turning off the gas as they fled the flames to prevent the chippy from exploding.

Stevenson’s owner, Rob Wicks – who took over the fish and chip shop just weeks before the fire – said although the interior of the shop was destroyed, the building itself survived.

“We’re working with our insurance company to get rebuilt, refurbished and reopen as soon as we can,” Mr Wicks said.

“Timescales are difficult to predict, but our intention remains to reopen as soon as possible.

“We need to refurbish the entire interior and replace our equipment.

“The community have been great. We’ve had lots of really nice messages of support form them.

“The council and our insurance company have also been very supportive.”
