A pensioner's recycling bin is “full to the brim” after more than 10 weeks of missed collections.

David Miller, who has lived in the north Norfolk village of Weybourne for 28 years, is disabled as he has severe arthritis.

He has to use a triangular walker to get around, meaning he is unable to wheel his green recycling bin out to the front of his property for collection.

North Norfolk News:

Mr Miller said he previously had an arrangement in place with North Norfolk District Council for binmen to enter through his front gate to collect his bins from his side door, by the garage outside his house.

But, despite saying he has made six separate complaints to the council, Mr Miller’s recycling bin has not been collected in more than two-and-a-half months.

Mr Miller, who has lived alone since his wife passed away four years ago, said: “My bin is full to the brim and hasn’t been collected in 10 weeks.

“I live on my own and I usually have hardly any rubbish, but now I can’t even get any more in the bin.

“There used to be a system where they would walk to my front door because I’m disabled.

"I have the front gate permanently open and a small gravel drive, so it’s a matter of walking five yards.”

Hundreds of other north Norfolk householders have experienced missed bin collections since collection routes changed in September 2022.

A North Norfolk District Council spokesperson said: “North Norfolk District Council is sorry to learn of the issues Mr Miller has experienced in not having his recycling collected for a number of weeks.

“We have discussed his specific circumstances with our contractor Serco and hope the situation is now remedied going forward.”
