Snow White, seven dwarves and a Norfolk fairy to take the stage in Mundesley’s panto

A timeless tale of a princess rescued by a bunch of little miners will mark a Norfolk’s village’ 45th consecutive pantomime.
Mundesley’s panto for 2018 is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, to be directed by Ian Cashmore and produced by Pat Nearney.
Mr Nearney said this year’s show was bound to be as hilarious as ever.
He said: “This year even more fun and laughter is guaranteed.”
The panto has a tradition of giving up-and-coming actors a chance to shine on stage and Snow White will be no exception.
Among this year’s 40-strong cast is Cromer Academy pupil Georgia Pearce, 15, who has the leading role. Georgia has already appeared in many pantos, as well as productions by the academy and Mundesley Players.
Joining her on-stage will be perennial Mundesley favourite Sheilah Olley, whose role as the ‘Norfolk Fairy’ has been weaved into the past 20 of the village’s pantos. She was last year voted to remain in the role in a ‘pantomime referendum’.
Backstage, Nigel and Brenda Holmes are producing the sets, and sounds and lighting is being done by David Castle and Joe Coleman.
Written by Ben Crocker, the pantomime version of the Brothers Grimm classic includes plenty of action and comedy for both adults and children.
The Mundesley panto started in 1973, organised by the Friends of Mundesley Lifeboat.
In 2014 it was decided it was no longer possible to run the event under the lifeboat banner.
Not wishing to see the tradition die, Mr Cashmore, Mr Nearney and Nigel Holmes stepped in to carry it forward, writing the 2015 show with help from the Mundesley Players.
The show continues in a similar vein today, regularly having a ‘tongue in cheek’ dig at local targets. Performances will take place at the Coronation Hall, daily between Tuesday, February 13 and Saturday, February 17, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8 for adults and £4 for children aged under 12.
