A bass guitar signed by Pink Floyd’s drummer is set to among the highlights of a memorabilia auction at an upcoming charity gig.
The instrument is one of 30 items that will go under the hammer as part of North Walsham Live Aid, an annual event that supports a different worthy cause each year.
Barry Holden, Live Aid organiser, said the fender-style bass featured artwork from the band’s iconic album Dark Side of the Moon, and had been signed by drummer Nick Mason.
Mr Holden said: “As always, money is being raised for a local children’s charity, this year being EACH.
“The charity is building a new hospice - the Nook - and it will include a dedicated music therapy department which North Walsham Live Aid are hoping to provide funds for all the equipment and instruments required.”
The Saturday, April 13 gig will take place at North Walsham Community Centre and features bands The Bloodshake Chorus, Dick York and the Originals, Raw Edge and Coast.
The Bloodshake Chorus are described as a ‘fifties/sixties horror rock’ band from the ‘depths of Suffolk’, and the line-up includes singer Mann Slaughter, guitarist Wyatt Hertz, bassist Doug Upp, Frank Ensteinway on keyboards and Vincent Blackshadow on drums.
Dick York’s band, which is based in London, is just back from a tour of Germany.
There will also be hot food on sale, a silent raffle and a raffle, all to raise more money towards the total.
Other items to be auctioned off this year include a Marshall bluetooth speaker and top-of-the-range headphones, and a 60th anniversary Cliff Richard DVD signed by the musician himself.
There will also be a framed, signed photograph of Queen drummer Roger Taylor, a signed Loose Change CD by Ed Sheeran, and a signed photo of Sir Bob Geldoff.
Mr Holden said since it began in 1985, Live Aid had raised more than £100,000 for local charities.
Inspired by the Live Aid event that took place at Wembly that same year, all bands featured perform for free and the only expenses are for the venue and security.
Tickets for the gig, which is being organised by North Walsham’s Music Hut and starts at 6.30pm, are on sale for £10.
