Cantamus Choir to sing for North Walsham church tower appeal

PUBLISHED: 15:26 27 June 2013 | UPDATED: 15:26 27 June 2013

Vivaldi and jaunty English folk songs will be performed by a community choir in aid of a church repair fund.

The concert by Cantamus Choir will be taking place this Saturday at 7pm in St Nicholas Church on North Walsham Market Place.

Proceeds from the evening will go towards the St Nicholas Church Tower Fund.

An estimated £55,000 is needed to stabalise the structure, which used to be Norfolk’s second tallest church tower until its collapse in 1724.

Cantamus recently performed in St Jame’s Church, Southrepps, in aid of the fund.

Tickets for this weekend’s concert cost £5 on the door.

The performance will include the melodic Gloria by Vivaldi, The Bluebird by Stanford as well as English folk songs.

Cantamus was set up in 1998 at St Margaret’s Church, Thorpe Market, and currently practises on Thursday evenings at St. James, Southrepps, 7.30 - 9.30pm. The next practise session will be on Thursday September 5.

Anyone interested in joining should email Davidballard@hotmail.co.uk and for more information about the choir visit www.thorpemarket.org.uk/cantamus.htm. No previous musical experience or knowledge is required.
