A music teacher is hoping to expand already successful ukulele lessons to Cromer.

Nigel Digby, 54, from Salisbury Road, Cromer, has taught the ukulele to groups at The Atrium, North Walsham, since Easter last year.

He hopes to hold sessions at St Martin's Church Hall, Mill Road, but would like to hear from potential students first.

Mr Digby said: 'The ukulele does seem to be popular at the moment. The North Walsham group has become so successful I thought I could hold one in Cromer.

'It was very much a shot in the dark when I set it up.

'We suspected it would be popular. It always brings a smile to your face. If you play the ukulele you can't help but grin. It is a funny instrument.'

The North Walsham group is held from 9.30am until lunchtime on Saturdays and anyone can join.

It costs £35 for a five week course and is held during the school terms.

Mr Digby has set up a ukulele orchestra, which includes about seven musicians.

He also teaches the bass guitar and guitar at The Atrium, which is connected to North Walsham High School, as well as giving private lessons at Cromer Academy and Kelling Primary School.

The musician, who trained as an architect but started teaching in 2000, said his students range from seven to 70.

He said he cannot teach anyone under the age of seven but can teach groups or individuals in one to one sessions.
