A raggle-taggle bunch of straw-stuffed scarecrows will be the star attractions at a family fun day being held at Trunch, near North Walsham, on Sunday.
Now in its ninth year, the annual event sees village residents and businesses place homemade comic characters and animals in their front gardens, with previous years' efforts ranging from a policeman, a lion tamer and a pub landlady complete with bar, to a horse and jockey, a builder falling off a ladder and the Olympic athlete Usain Bolt.
Other attractions at the Paddock, in the centre of the village, will include a vintage car, motorbike and tractor display, gun dog obedience demonstrations, stalls selling crafts, local produce, woodwork, clocks and auto bric-a-brac, plant and book sales, and children's events ranging from a coconut shy and a treasure trail, to face painting and a Punch and Judy show.
Two large marquees will house an art exhibition and a summer flower show from Trunch Garden Club, with attractions dotted around the Paddock field including model steam engines and aircraft displays, an amateur radio communications stand and beekeeping demonstrations.
Fun day visitors will also have a chance to take a look round Mundesley fire engine and meet its crew, tuck in to ploughman's lunches, coffee, tea and cakes at the village hall, or enjoy a barbecue and live music at Trunch Social Club.
Organised by Trunch Village Society, the annual scarecrow trail and fun day raises around £3,000 a year for local good causes, with previous beneficiaries including the village hall, Bumbles Playgroup, a social group, a cider co-operative and bee-keeping and knitting clubs.
Fun day committee member Michael Tyler said organisers aimed to offer something for everyone, whatever their age.
He added: 'We would like to invite visitors to enjoy a few leisurely hours in our picturesque village supporting a very worthy cause.'
Trunch scarecrow festival and fun day runs from 10am-4pm on Sunday. Maps showing the locations of scarecrows will be available at the village hall, in Knapton Road, and at Trunch Corner Stores, North Walsham Road. Free parking is available near the Paddock and admission is £3 (children free), with all proceeds going to Trunch Village Society.
