A series of popular monthly cottage garden workshops will be running for the final time this year.

Shirley Gilbert has led the practical outdoor lessons in her garden at Hill Cottage, School Road, Edingthorpe, on behalf of the National Gardens Scheme since 2011, but will stop after December 4.

Miss Gilbert transformed the empty space outside Hill Cottage after she moved to the village 22 years ago and first opened her garden to the public 20 years ago.

She said: 'I am delighted participants have found the workshops helpful, and really pleased they are inspiring a new generation of gardeners, who will hopefully open their gardens for the National Gardens Scheme in the future.'

The workshops are designed to take people through all aspects of the gardening year. They are also tailored to the needs of the individual and are ideal for beginners.

Each session runs from 10am to 4pm and costs £45 including lunch and tea.

'They have to physically do everything - whatever the weather.

'I get people who have never had a garden before and people who have retired and want to get on with their garden,' she added.

Students come from across Norfolk and learn what they should be doing in the garden each month.

Miss Gilbert added she might continue to run one-off workshops.
