It's pantomime time in one village as a classic tale is set to help raise money for charity.

Now in its fourth year, the Overstrand pantomime has become a part of Overstrand village calendar.

This year's original panto, directed by Guy Bartlett and starring The White Horse Players, is titled Alad In Overstrand and will run for three nights.

The audience will be transported to Window Twankey's Laundry in Peking as well as visiting a street market, a palace, a big cave, and to end it all a wedding scene, all without having to leave Overstrand Parish Hall.

Mr Bartlett, speaking about the White Horse Players, who were set up in 2012 and put on their first pantomime in 2013 to raise money for charity, said: 'Almost all of those who joined had no acting or singing experience but now in their fourth year they are bringing their own new found skills in writing, singing, dancing and comedy.

'I have worked with them from the outset and have enjoyed their creativity, spontaneity and humour'.

This year's show is supporting Overstrand Together who raise money for Overstrand Village projects, village groups and charities.

It organises three major events during the course of the year with a number of smaller fund-raisers.

The five strong steering group meet on a regular basis and then report to an open meeting of villagers, who can put forward their ideas for events.

At the end of the financial year village groups and societies apply for funding to support projects for the coming year.

All the events undertaken by the group rely on volunteers and the support of the village.

Last year the charity funded six village based projects totalling more than £3,000.

Alad In Overstrand Pantomime opens on Thursday, February 18th for three nights with performances at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale now at the White Horse pub in Overstrand and Overstrand Stores.

Adults £5 and children under 14, £1.
