A family music group and a singing fitness expert bagged the two top prizes in a talent show held at Age Concern North Norfolk's Sheringham day centre.

The Volko Trio, comprising French-born Kriss Volko on keyboards, son Hector, 10, on vibraphone and daughter Calypso, seven, on drums, wowed judges with their jazz funk rendition of the Pharrell Williams hit Happy.

The group shared first prize with Active Norfolk Fit Together county co-ordinator Melanie Brown, whose father and former karaoke partner Brian, 80, was a runner-up.

The talent show, which was organised by the Cromer-based charity's administrator Adam Faulconbridge, attracted an eclectic mix of entrants, ranging from a dance troupe from Cromer dance school Marlene's, to local singer Peter Philips.

'There was a wonderful atmosphere and everyone enjoyed a fantastic morning of entertainment,' Mr Faulconbridge said.

'We would like to thank everyone who participated and who supported the event as we were all amazed at the incredibly high standard of entries.'

Ms Brown and The Volko Trio - who have performed at local venues ranging from Salthouse Church, to the Kings Head pub, at Letheringsett - will appear on stage alongside professional entertainers at the Auden Theatre, Holt, later in the year as part of an annual variety show staged by the Good Intentions Fundraising Team (GIFT).

Founded by Yvonne Tiffany of Aldborough in 2005, the fundraising group, which has this year chosen Age Concern North Norfolk as its nominated charity, has raised more than £30,000, with proceeds from the variety show and other events split equally between local good causes and show business charity the Grand Order of Water Rats.

Thanking all those who turned out to the talent show, Mrs Tiffany said: 'I was very pleased with the high standard and I think we have found something special, both with Melanie and with the Volko Trio.'
