Sheringham Little Theatre will be swinging to the sounds of the 1940s on Friday, September 18, when staff and volunteers star in a community singalong featuring wartime songs ranging from Pack up Your Troubles to We'll Meet Again.

Organised for the first time last year as part of the North Norfolk Railway's annual 1940s weekend, the event was the idea of box office supervisor Penelope Tilzey and volunteer Teresa Williams, whose husband Steve is general manager at the theatre.

"The singalong was such a success that we were turning people away, so we decided to do it again this year," Penelope said.

Accompanied by Teresa on the piano, Penelope and two guest vocalists will be asking theatre-goers to join them in singing tunes from a 1940s songbook.

"We will be taking requests and we'll be handing out song sheets for people who don't know the words," Penelope said.

Also putting in an appearance will be popular local entertainer Terry Chappelle, who will be performing sketches, and 11-year-old Katie Thompson, who will be giving a solo performance of a 1940s song.

The 1940s community singalong will be held in Sheringham Little Theatre's Hub coffee bar on Friday (September 18) from 5-7pm and from 7.30-9.30pm.

Tickets (priced 3) are available on the door, or from the box office on 01263 822347. For more information about the North Norfolk Railway's 1940s weekend, visit www.nnrailway.co.uk
