Legendary British singer Elkie Brooks has been confirmed as the headline act for the first-ever Holt Summer Festival which will take place from Monday 3rd August to Saturday 8th August.

Legendary British singer Elkie Brooks has been confirmed as the headline act for the first-ever Holt Summer Festival which will take place from Monday 3rd August to Saturday 8th August.

Elkie Brooks will be appearing at the Theatre in the Woods at Gresham's School, on Saturday 8th August when she will perform many of her famous hit songs such as Pearl's A Singer, Lilac Wine, Don't Cry Out Loud and Fool If You Think It's Over.

The Festival will feature a number of other concerts as well as theatre, comedy, cinema, art, literary events, opera, street theatre, storytelling and workshops. Performances are aimed at all ages and will take place in venues throughout the town, with events planned all day, every day. Elizabeth Mansfield's Olivier nominated 'Marie', about the celebrated music hall star, Marie Lloyd, will take place at The Auden Theatre, and other performances at this venue will include those by exciting British jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock; rising classical singing stars Sophie Bevan and David Stout, with internationally acclaimed pianist Iain Burnside; contemporary dance group ACE Dance and Music; modern theatre company Nabokov; and one of the UK's greatest vocal groups, Cantabile. Meanwhile, former ITN political editor Michael Brunson will host a literary lunch with Diana Athill OBE who received the Costa Biography Award 2008 for her memoir Somewhere Towards the End.

A poetry evening will also take place with well-known Norfolk poets Esther Morgan and Kevin Crossley-Holland, while other events include a stand-up comedy night with rising stars Markus Birdman, Brendan Dempsey and George Egg; and unconventional baroque music by British ensemble Red Priest.

In addition, there will be all sorts of family activities.
