With a top notch line-up of actors and directors, and a programme featuring side-splitting comedy, edge-of-the-seat drama, and a spine chilling thriller, this year's Sheringham Little Theatre summer repertory season looks set to be another box office hit.

The 10-week, five-play season, which last year attracted record audiences, kicks off with John Godber's outrageous and hilarious drama Bouncers, which focuses on the exploits of four doormen at a northern nightclub.

A quartet of actors portrays more than 20 characters in the play - from cocky lads to giggling girls getting ready for a night on the town.

This year's team of Little Theatre guest directors includes acclaimed actor and Little Theatre patron Desmond Barrit, who comes to Sheringham straight from London's West End where he starred in Alan Bennett's hit play The History Boys.

Mr Barrit, who also recently appeared in the ITV drama Midsomer Murders, is joined by Little Theatre regulars Peter Craze and Bev Berridge, and stage and screen star Nicky Henson.

A founder member of the Young Vic company, Mr Henson began his show business career writing songs for Cliff Richard and The Shadows.

He has appeared in more than 30 films, from Vera Drake to Syriana, and his theatre credits range from Macbeth to Charley's Aunt.

On television, he has popped up in soaps including Coronation Street and Eastenders, and drama series from Inspector Morse to A Touch of Frost.

As well providing a springboard for new acting talent, the Little Theatre summer rep has a proud history of attracting experienced stage, screen and TV actors.

This season, the theatre welcomes Royal Shakespeare Company actor Joseph Millson, who starred as Doctor Sam Morgan in the ITV drama serial Peak Practice.

Mr Millson, who played Carter in the 2006 James Bond movie Casino Royale, has also appeared in Eastenders, played computer buff Alan Jackson in the CBBC Dr Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures, and attracted rave reviews for his portrayal of a wronged husband in the four-part ITV drama Talk To Me.

Theatre credits include The Seagull, As You Like It, and Much Ado About Nothing, with Joseph last year playing the part of Prince Charming in Stephen Fry's hit pantomime Cinderella at the Old Vic.

Little Theatre artistic director Debbie Thompson, who is producing the summer rep for the third year running, said Bouncers was a great way to start the season.

"I think this year we have something for everybody, whatever their age," she added. "And it is a real coup to have people of Des, Nicky and Joe's calibre on board."

Sheringham Little Theatre's summer repertory season kicks off on July 7 with John Godber's Bouncers. Other plays include the thriller, Dangerous Obsession by N J Crisp, the farce, Snakes and Ladders by Eric Chappell, who wrote Rising Damp, Alan Ayckbourn's Bedroom Farce and Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit. The season runs until 13th September.
