Altogether Now! promises hands-on, have-a-go half-term fun for children, who are invited to help run the Poppy Line this weekend.

Poppy Line volunteers will help youngsters “have-a-go” at things like flagging a train away, getting their hands on the signalbox levers, and even making their own special sandwich and decorated biscuit with Cherry Bakewell.

Professor Fanthorpe and his team will introduce the kids to arts and crafts, and drivers and firemen will show them how a steam engine works.

If the first Altogether Now! experience on the Poppy Line at the Spring bank holiday this year is anything to go by, it'll be a real fun-filled, action-packed day.

Typical visitor comments at the spring event were: “The sights, sounds and smells of the day will be something my children will remember for a long time;” “The activities were enjoyable by a wide age range;” “Much more interesting than Thomas the Tank Engine.”

Steam and vintage diesel trains will be running every 45 minutes on both days, and normal fares apply - £9.50 adult, £6 children aged 5-15, under 5s FREE, senior citizen £8.50 and family (2 adults and 2 children, or 3 adults and 1 child) £29. Dogs and cycles £1 each.
