BELLY dancing is set to bring a touch of Eastern promise to Mundesley.
Dancer Sharon Humphrey is launching two beginners' classes in the Coronation Hall next week.
The six-week course in Eygptian belly dance will cost 30 and Sharon hopes those taking part will want to carry on once they've been bitten by the belly-dancing bug which gripped her over 14 years ago when it was featured on TV.
'I can remember seeing a group of women of different ages and sizes shimmying and dancing, obviously enjoying themselves. From then on I was on the lookout for a local class, but it took over 12 months before I found one,' she said.
Sharon, who co-owns The House of Hobbies in North Walsham town centre, has recently completed a teacher training foundation course in Arabic dance and has gained a PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector) City and Guilds award. She also teaches American tribal-style belly dance in Norwich with dance group Eceni.
'Belly dancing is really good for keeping fit and building up core muscles. There's also a lot of camaraderie and it makes you feel good in yourself. It's strong and empowering,' said Sharon.
Hour-long classes start on June 1 and will be held on Mondays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm. Places must be pre-booked and Sharon warns that they are filling fast. She can be contacted by email at: sharon_humphrey@hotmail.co.uk or by phone on: 0753 818 1409.
