CHILDREN from North Walsham Gymnastics Club impressed scores of spectators with an hour-long display which is set to become an annual showpiece.

A group of 56 club members, ranging from recreational to competitive gymnasts, took part in the performance, which included group routines and individual pieces on floor, bars and beam.

The show, in front of about 120 people, was part of an open day at the club's home, North Walsham Sports Centre, and was so successful that it will now take place every year, according to head coach Alexis Thurston.

She will be taking 15 girls to the Grades County Championships this Saturday at Norwich Gymnastics Club.

Alexi formed the club eight years ago and it has just received Gymmark and Clubmark recognition.

She's on the lookout for voluntary help as there are now 115 children on its waiting list and two coaches, Ellen Ledger and Roxanne Demmen, will be leaving for university in August. Anyone interested in training to take over their roles should contact the sports centre on 01692 402293.

The club's fundraising committee has organised a quiz 'n chips night on February 21 at North Walsham Sport Centre, at 6.30pm, to raise cash for a desperately-needed tumble track.
