Former England cricket captain Chris Cowdrey was the guest speaker at the recent SportsAid Eastern lunch held at the Top of the City suite at Carrow Road.

The programme of lunches, which are sponsored by four Norwich-based businesses – oneonone communications, Howes Percival LLP, Davis Langdon and Lovewell Blake - raise funds for bursaries awarded to those young sportspeople from Norfolk who have the potential to go on to national and international competition to help with their equipment and travel expenses.

At the event multi-event athlete Ellie Blunt, 13, from Wroxham, was presented with a cheque by Chris Cowdrey. Ellie has been ranked in the top 20 in the UK last year for seven events and in the top 10 for four of them. She also won two golds and a bronze at the National Sportshall Final in 2008/09 season and has recently broken the UK speed bounce record, for all age groups, as an under 13 year old.

Rob Davies, managing director of co-sponsor oneonone communications said: 'The lunches have a dual purpose of raising funds for Norfolk's most talented sporting youngsters and providing a fantastic platform for great value client hospitality and networking. I would encourage other Norwich businesses to come along and take a table and see for themselves what a worthy event this is.'
