Wroxham low key

By any standards this was a tame game between last season's champions and runners-up, but Wroxham nor Mildenhall could really expect to finish better than third and fourth respectively and this low key confrontation reflected that situation. Although for the Yachtsmen there remains a faint chance of runners-up medals

Mildenhall opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a freak goal that summed up the lack of interest. It was a right cross from Stephen Spriggs, appearing to be heading out of play to the far goal-line until the keen easterly breeze wafted the ball into Woodcock's right-hand angle without the keeper attempting to catch, palm or punch, writes Roy Webster.

A relenting Wroxham manger Damian Hilton brought back Lee Gilman up front alongside Ben Thompson with Alex Notman just behind, but none of these players, so effective on the ground, was able to win an aerial battle against the visitors' twin centre-backs Wurthmann and Coe, while the excellent visiting keeper John Pope pulled off a wonderful flying save to push away White's sizzling attempt for the equaliser.

After Mildenhall came close to adding to their lead, but stopped by Woodcock who saved Spriggs' effort low down, Pope earned the Man of the Match accolade at the opposite end with another crucial save, whipping the ball off Thompson's toes when about to pull the trigger.

Mildenhall had the ball in the net again but it was ruled out for handball and shortly after Thompson needed treatment to a nosebleed after colliding with Key.

Wroxham failed to make the most of an almost constant supply of corners, but it was the visitors who demonstrated how it should be done when David Wurthmann scored from the edge of the six-yard box to secure the points but unable to deny the Yachtsmen a guaranteed third spot with three games to play.
