AFTER a weekend off to enjoy the festival, the Worstead players made the trip to Brooke hoping to get their Burgess Shield Division Two campaign back on track.

Having won the toss the home captain elected to bat first and the openers made steady progress in the face of some excellent opening bowling by Mark Yaxley (0-47) and Mark Cushion (0-46).

Only R Jackson (54) and overseas star V Parikh (38 not out) really got going and none of the Brooke batsmen could master Jim Bullimore (5-34) and Tim Beeden (2-40), who ensured that their side ended up chasing a realistic target of 173 to win in 40 overs.

The Worstead reply got off to a poor start when Bob Eagleton (4) was well caught at slip but Rob Eagleton (34) and Tim Beeden (78) turned the game in their side's favour with a superb

97-run partnership in

good time.

However once Eagleton was caught at point and Jamie Cater was bowled for a golden duck the all too familiar Worstead middle-order collapse set in and suddenly from being in a dominant position the visitors lost a flurry of wickets with only Alex Browne (15) and Jim Bullimore (14 not out) managing double figures.

However, the experienced Worstead lower order came to the fore and when the final over began they needed 10 runs to win with two wickets remaining with Jim Bullimore and Mark Yaxley at the crease.

The first ball yielded two leg byes followed by another leg bye and then a dot ball.

The fourth ball was smashed to the deep mid off boundary for four runs by Yaxley, meaning that three were needed off two balls.

Yaxley was controversially run out going for a risky second run attempting to tie the scores which meant that Liam Blackwell came to the crease to face the last ball with one run needed to tie and two or more to win.

The ball was squirted to close mid-wicket but the batsmen scrambled through to tie the scores and ensure that both teams earned 15 points each from a fantastic game of cricket.
