FAKENHAM High School became the first winners of the North Norfolk School Sport Partnership Volleyball competition, hosted at Aylsham High School.

Sixty pupils aged 14 and 15 from across north Norfolk entered this first high school volleyball competition.

The six teams all played each other on a round-robin basis and Fakenham achieved first place followed by Sheringham High in second place. Schools had the opportunity to attend a volleyball course earlier in the year and then schools have implemented an after-school club to develop the skills and match practice required.

The teams also had the opportunity at the competition to receive coaching from Kwok Ng, the Eastern Region U14's volleyball coach, and two University of East Anglia Volleyball Club players assisted on the day with refereeing with support from Julie Zulu, school sport

co-ordinator and the Norfolk County Council sport team.

Asa Saunders, partnership development manager for the School Sports Partnership, said: “Volleyball was a sport we wanted to implement as a competition across the north Norfolk high schools.

“This was the first year and we want to build on this next year with more schools and teams and also look at extra coaching opportunities.”
