The haphazard nature of the rugby season continues as once again the weather intervened to cause the postponement of the Vikings' game against Portsmouth.

The late fall of snow on Friday night was too late to prevent the Portsmouth team travelling and when their coach and captain were brought to Scottow mid morning it was obvious that despite the best efforts of a small army of volunteers there was no way the game could go ahead.

While most of the division pick up the games that were cancelled on December 19, North Walsham will be able to fill the 'free' Saturday with a Woodforde's Norfolk Senior Cup tie against Beccles.

Despite the Suffolk side playing their league rugby two divisions below Walsham they must not be taken lightly. They have had a storming season so far, having won all bar two of their 15 games and head London 3 North East by two points from Canvey Island.

Last season the clubs were drawn against each other at Beef Meadow and Beccles emerged deserving winners.

With Walsham needing to keep match fit it is reasonable to assume that the coaches will select as near a full side as possible with the added possibility of making a couple of experimental changes.

It is possible that kick-off may be brought forward to 2.30pm to enable those interested to watch the England International on television so potential spectators should check the club's website before travelling to ensure they do not miss the early stages.
