A PERIOD of relative inactivity recently should have North Walsham fresh and ready to meet Bishop's Stortford who make their first visit since a friendly in the 1994-95 season.
A PERIOD of relative inactivity recently should have North Walsham fresh and ready to meet Bishop's Stortford who make their first visit since a friendly in the 1994-95 season.
This will be an entirely different proposition as when the sides met in the season opener Stortford won 26-17 in a game which Walsham could have won but played with a degree of naivety, failed to play to the referee's whistle and really had no complaint at the result.
Their league position, one place above Walsham in seventh position, would indicate that this should be a close one.
The Raiders should be hosting Chinnor but that game is in doubt but the Warriors, a side bristling with young talent, welcome Thetford II in the Woodfordes Merit Table.
Wymondham XV 15, North Walsham XV 51
Walsham pulled together a side consisting mainly of members of the Warriors with a few more experienced players looking for a fitness run-out as the game was arranged at short notice. The home side took an early lead but once Walsham hit their stride there was no doubt about the outcome. With Justin Loveridge and Tim Sedgwick pulling the strings Will Quinn was first to cross the stripe. Deciding to play with the ball in hand Wymondham were kept on the back foot as Keiron Yaxley, Gav Keegan, Ian Webster, Justin Loveridge, Owen Watkins, Sam Rhodes, Jonny Stephenson and Dan Bancroft all made touchdowns. Wymondham gained two more tries.
West Norfolk U13 10,
North Walsham U13 17
With a gutsy display Walsham U13 secured the David Blizzard Trophy after a tight and entertaining game that could have gone either way. West Norfolk scored first, unconverted.
Then Oliver Bradfield scored behind the posts and Declan Sowter added the conversion. Straight from the restart Will Fleming broke down the right flank to score but West pressure paid off. At half time there were two points in it.
Walsham showed more control in the second half and following an impressive drive by the forwards crossed the line but could not ground the ball. From the resulting scrum the ball
was sent along the line, Bradfield took the tackle but released the ball to George Alcock for the winning try.
