THE snow played havoc with the league with half of the scheduled games called off.

Previously, Backhanders lost

9-1 to Outlaws as John Hancock Jnr and Haken Bennell both took maximums.

The Backhanders team found themselves in the relegation zone alongside the Cobras as James Baldock-Yaxley, Adam Brown and Alex Spragg hosted Wilson, Chris Marshall and Murray Shanahan in a bottom-of-the-table clash.

The first four contests were incredibly tight with Brown defeating Marshall in five and Spragg edging Shanahan 16-14, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, but Wilson levelling with two wins that went the distance over

Baldock-Yaxley and Brown.

Spragg defeated Marshall in four while Baldock-Yaxley and Brown both won in three against Shanahan. Wilson completed his maximum for Backhanders, but Baldock-Yaxley's straight sets win over Marshall and a doubles win in three completed Cobras' 7-3 match win.

In the second division the Goblins team of Peter Ward, Jonathan and Simeon Care drew with title contenders Seals. Peter Betts took a maximum, but Ward and Jonathan Care took braces and combined for a doubles win.

Delta had a match full of twists and turns that ended up in a draw with Barracudas and this week Delta's Phil Mole, Tom Baldock-Yaxley and John Vaughan took on the same Goblins team of Ward and the Cares.

Ward defeated Mole 20-18 in the fifth. Baldock-Yaxley defeated Simeon Care in straight, while a tremendous start in the decider helped Vaughan to a five-game win over Jonathan Care.

The latter won a scintillating battle with Mole in four sets, while Vaughan won his re-match with Ward.

With four straight sets games shared - Vaughan and Mole defeating Simeon Care and Ward and Jonathan Care beating Baldock-Yaxley, it came down to the doubles where a

13-11 win in the fifth for Goblins ended the night with a draw.

The 100th league match of the season saw Barracudas take on Beta, who won 9-1.

Beta are now eight points clear at the top of the second division but with three weeks to go and the top three teams - Beta, Seals and Pirates - yet to play each other for the second time, it should prove an exciting climax as only two teams will be promoted.

The players of the week are maximum men Teucer Wilson, John Vaughan and Philip Stone.
