Martin Pearse has retained his No 1 spot at the top of the National Over 70 Squash Rankings.
The Sheringham player maintained his position after a solid showing in the recent South of England Masters at Winchester.
He claimed hard-fought victories over Ron Williams from Merseyside 13/15, 16/14, 15/7, 17/15 and Scottish No 1 Ken Reid, 13/15, 15/13, 15/9, 15/8 before narrowly losing to England No 2 and the eventual champion Chris Goodbourn from Middlesex 16/18, 15/7, 14/16, 18/20 in the semi-finals.
In the same week he won the prestigious British Amateur Jesters Championship held at the RAC Club, beating former team mate from Leicester and long standing Cambridgeshire No 1 Terry Reynolds, well known to Norfolk spectators 40 years ago, 9/5, 9/5, 9/2.
The Amateur Championship has retained the old hand in, hand out scoring system
