THE youth section of Sheringham Cricket Club enjoyed a very successful week of competitive cricket in their annual youth festival sponsored by Hayes and Storr from August 2 to 6.

Monday morning saw the U11 section play an inter club match which saw a close match with the A side winning by 22 runs.

Top scorers were Anderson Down (24), Ben Withers (22) and Adam Taylor(19), with Down, Charlie Robson and Withers taking two wickets.

The afternoon match saw a mixed U13/15 team take on Norfolk Girls U15 which saw Sheringham make 109-7 in 20 overs, Cameron Down (33) and Natan Lomax (22) top scorers. Norfolk Girls made 70-9 in reply with Esther Hebditch (24 no) impressing for the visitors.

On Tuesday Cromer were the visitors and the morning U11 match was a real cliffhanger with Sheringham winning by one run off the last ball with the last pair of Ollie Smith (13) and Anakin Owen (4) putting on 20 runs without losing a wicket to secure victory.

In the afternoon U15 match Cromer made a respectable 99-6 in 20 overs with Robbie Mitchell (2-13) the main wicket taker.

In reply, Sheringham's opening pair of Cameron Down (37no) and Jack Webster (52 no) knocked off the runs in only 12 overs to secure a 10-wicket victory.

Sadly, the typical English summer rain meant that the fun six-a-side day had to be abandoned despite the best efforts of the youngsters.

Bradfield were the visitors on Thursday and their U13s proved too strong with a comprehensive victory despite a good 25 not out from Christopher Woodhouse.

However, the U15 match in the afternoon saw Sheringham gain revenge with a six-wicket victory with Webster (45) again batting superbly.

Ashmanaugh travelled to complete the week with the U11 morning match being won by the visitors despite good batting by Charlie Milner (20no) and Miles Doncaster (12no).

The U15 match was won by Sheringham in a close match with Lomax (29), Woodhouse (20) and Nick Stromberg (13no) seeing the hosts knock off the required 117 with two balls to spare.

The club would like to thank all the volunteers for their help with food, scoring and umpiring and other things which helped to ensure that the week went smoothly.
