Sheringham again proved they are the dominant side in the Norfolk Alliance Division Two with a convincing demolition of mid-table Swardeston A.

This was their sixth straight victory and third consecutive maximum points haul, and it seems the championship is theirs to lose.

Swardeston won the toss and invited the Lobsters to bat on a dry wicket in miserable conditions. There was one break for weather during the match, but over the course of the day the cricket defied the forecasters.

Sheringham lost Galton Blackiston caught behind for four in the first over, and it looked like a difficult day may be ahead.

But Ravi Pushpakumara joined young Jordy Taylor and together they advanced the score to 45 before the Sri Lankan fell for 29.

Taylor then enjoyed a partnership of 60 with Chris Sutton before being run out for a well-made 33. New signing Nick Taylor and skipper Jimmy Hall didn't last long, and when Sutton fell for 34 shortly afterwards the league leaders suddenly found themselves in a spot of bother at 122-6 off 33 overs.

But the depth of the Sheringham batting is undeniable and Chris Carey (50 not out) and Kristian Howell (26 not out ) took the game away from Swardeston with a fantastic stand of 84, allowing Hall to declare the innings after 43 overs with the score on 206-6.

The Lobsters knew they had a decent total, but the big question was whether they could bowl the young visitors out before the weather intervened.

This was accomplished in some style with over 20 overs remaining thanks largely to a superb opening burst from Pushpakumara and Carey.

They had too much experience for the Swardeston side and finished with 5-23 and 3-20 respectively. David King completed the wickets haul with 2-23 as the visitors were all out for 79.

Swardeston were not the worst side Sheringham have faced this season and some of their players will go on to represent the club in higher divisions, but the day belonged to Sheringham and they thoroughly deserved the 25 points.

Chris Carey was the Premium Wine Collections man of the match.

Next, Sheringham visit Dersingham, who have recovered after a poor start to the season to reach fourth in the table. If the Lobsters avoid defeat they will reach the halfway stage of the season on top, and it is difficult to imagine them missing out on a second successive promotion.
