Sheringham had a fine Saturday with both the first and second teams recording good victories.

The first team travelled to Sprowston A in good form and made it three wins out of three to maintain their promotion push in Norfolk Alliance Division Four.

Skipper James Moy won the toss and chose to bowl first on a good-looking pitch.

Sprowston got off to a steady start and reached 50-0 from the opening 12 overs. Sheringham then began to peg the home side back through some tidy middle overs spin bowing from James Moy (4-24) and David King (1-38), leaving Sprowston on 100-5 going into the back end of their innings.

Some good hitting from their lower order enabled the home side to finish on a competitive 181-8 from their 45 overs.

In reply, Sheringham lost opener Will Moy in the first over and this brought Matt Hudson to the crease to join King. The pair batted fluently, putting on an unbroken stand of 175, to make light work of the Sprowston total, seeing Sheringham comfortably over the line by nine wickets with 15 overs remaining.

Hudson finished on 96 not out and King on 71 not out.

It was a thoroughly convincing performance from the Lobsters that sees them move into second place in the table, setting up a first versus second clash on Saturday against league leaders Hockwold at Weybourne Road. The west Norfolk side currently lead the way by 41 points and boast the league's highest scoring batsman Euan Gilmour, who already has three centuries to his name this season.

The second team entertained Felthorpe looking to build on their encouraging start to the season. Felthorpe batted first and made 158-4.

All Sheringham's bowlers bowled economically, particularly George Collyer who recorded impressive figures of 1-13 in his 10 overs.

In reply, Sheringham lost three quick wickets to leave them in trouble early in their innings. Chris Bateman (16) joined Mark Spillett at the crease and helped to steady the ship before Sheringham lost another three wickets in quick succession to leave them staring at a likely defeat.

However Aidy Platt came to the wicket and alongside mainstay Mark Spillett put on an impressive partnership to see Sheringham to victory by four wickets, Platt finishing on 25 not out and Mark Spillett with an impressive 81 not out.

The second team travel to Overstrand A on Saturday looking to build on this good performance.
