Sheringham faced Melton A in a game the Lobsters had to win to keep faint promotion hopes alive.

After being asked to bat first, the Melton opening bowlers started with great control, getting the new ball to swing in the process with Hudson (8) and T. Sheridan (7) struggling to impose themselves.

The pressure wasn't eased with the introduction of Mckenzie into the attack as his probing line snaffled both openers as he struck three times in two overs to leave Sheringham 16-3 after 16 overs.

Things got little better for the Lobsters as Neave (0), Bailey (2), Cox (0) & Platt (1) all fell in quick succession, the Lobsters now seven down. Number three J. Moy was still there and he tried to counter-attack in a much needed 25, before holing out. C. Moy and N. Lomax (3) offered some resistance, with the former adding a useful 19 before being the last to fall.

A disastrous innings saw Sheringham bowled out for 68 inside 37 overs in the face of by far the best bowling attack they have come up against this season. Mckenzie was the destroyer in chief for Great Melton, taking 7-11 from his 12 overs.

In response Cox (1-10) Struck with his first ball, well caught by Sheridan; but with such a small total needed anything loose was despatched and Great Melton had reached 21-1 in the fifth over.

C. Moy (2-15) then found his line and really began to threaten the batsman, striking in successive overs to leave the visitors 23-3 after seven. The introduction of the spin of J. Moy (2-18) into the attack then worked as he struck with successive balls in his second over to reduce Great Melton to 36-5, with the Lobsters now sensing a sniff of an unlikely victory.

When J. Platt (1-18) struck in his second over this sense increased.Great Melton were 45-6 from 15 overs, still needing a further 24 runs on a pitch now offering the bowlers some assistance. U

Unfortunately for the Lobsters that sense and their promotion dream was swiftly taken away as that man McKenzie came to the crease. Fifteen came off J. Moy's next over as Mckenzie (15 not out) attacked over the top, with a no ball being called on a huge leg before appeal ending Sheringham hopes. A four-wicket win was sealed in the next over; with the Lobsters left to rue their failures with the bat after putting in such a brave fight with the ball.

There's no game for Sheringham this Saturday. They entertain Winterton on August 23 before ending the season away to Hales & Loddon the following week.
