It was a day for the veteran members of the North Norfolk Beach Runners as Jim Hayes and Brenda Kinch both took first place in the Over 60s categories at Sunday's Wymondham 20.

Hayes ran his usual steady pace to win his age group by nearly 20 minutes, finishing 61st overall in a time of 2-30:43 - but for Brenda Kinch it was the race of her life.

With just 300 metres to go she spotted her nearest rival, Great Yarmouth's Carol Spong, and put in an early sprint for the line, comfortably overtaking the flagging Yarmouth veteran and beating her to the line by just four seconds.

It was a personal best for the Gresham runner by around two minutes and will send her off to next month's London Marathon in good heart.

Meanwhile the first Beach Runner home was Clive Hedges, performing well in just his second race back after a lengthy injury break to come in 56th in a time of 2-28:54.

The fourth member of the Cromer club to take on the tough and windy course was Chris Parker who limped home in 2-46:47 after suffering a calf injury at 18 miles.
