UNDETERRED by an exceptionally hot Sunday morning, five North Norfolk Beach Runners took home prizes from the gruelling RAF Marham 10-mile race.

Christina Walker continued her fine summer form with third place in the 35-44 age group in a time of 1-22:05 with Christine Thorne, Brenda Kinch and Malcolm Ball all placing first in their age groups with sub-90 minute times.

Completing the prize winning quintet Andi Osbourne was a little further back in 1-39:45 but still picked up second place in her category.

All five should take enormous heart from their finishes.

The RAF Marham course, which circumnavigates the airfield, is notoriously tough on a hot day being almost totally devoid of shade.

Also running were Andy Kett who put in a brilliant run to finish fourth in 1-01:15 but sadly found himself outside the prizes and Andi Osbourne's husband, Rob who finished a creditable 90th in 1-29:21.

Later in the week five more Beach Runners took to the lanes around Coltishall for the Mike Groves Run, covering the unusual distance of 5.85k.

Chris Parker looked to be nearly recovered from the foot injury that has blighted his running year so far, covering the mixed terrain course in 24:01 for an excellent 12th place with Jeremy Bolam, making a rare appearance on the race circuit, working hard for a time of 25:51 and 25th place.

Perennial racer Ian Jarvis produced an impressive sprint finish as he clocked 27:19 and Simon Page was not far behind him in 38th place.

Last but not least was

Maurice Copeland, running his last race before having a pacemaker fitted.
