THE Robins arrived at Corton following a win the previous Saturday and were hoping to kick-start a winning sequence in Anglian Combination Division One.

During the first seven minutes Reepham had all the possession and were camped in the Corton half.

A couple of half-chances were squandered before Corton were awarded a free-kick just in the Reepham half.

It was knocked long into the Reepham 18-yard box, bounced harmlessly into the six-yard box where James Page decided to control the ball before clearing, instead of putting his foot through it and clearing the danger.

The ball fell to the feet of Corton's Nathan Wilkinson who stabbed it into the net.

The wind, which was building, was at the home team's back and the first corner for Corton taken by Elliot Dawes went directly into the top corner.

So on 15 minutes and against the run of play Reepham, who had controlled the game, were two down.

On a very heavy pitch it was always going to be easier to defend than attack, and Corton sat back and let the Robins push for a goal which would have got them back into the game.

But in the last couple of minutes Corton broke away and Nathan Wilkinson scored another goal.

Paul Belton, the Reepham joint assistant manager, stated afterwards: 'I don't like making excuses, but the ref didn't give us anything, the pitch was unplayable and the wind was against us when they scored two goals against the run of play.'

He conceded: 'We didn't play well, but on another day...who knows?'

On Saturday the Robins are at home to Scole, kick-off 2.30pm.
