GRESHAM'S Rifle Club has been heralded as “the strongest schools' shooting club in Britain” following their tour of Scotland over half term.

Scottish newspaper The Milngavie and Bearsden Herald commended the club for their decisive wins over the Bearsden Rifle Club (788-766) and Kelvinside Academy (764-706), praising our young shooters' skill and experience.

The club set off for Scotland in early February, stopping first in Cambridge to shoot in their annual match against the Cambridge University Rifle Club.

After winning one out of two matches against the older and more experienced university team, the group set off for Clackmannanshire, where they won their first Scottish match against Dollar Academy by 11 points.

The team then shot against longstanding rivals, George Watson's College in Edinburgh, before moving on to Glasgow for matches versus Kelvinside Academy and the Bearsden Rifle Club.

Gresham's shooters consistently performed to the highest standards.

Junior Ladies' champion Harriet Bennett scored 99 points at Bearsden, as did British Schools' U16 champion Roland Johnson, who recently shot in a British Schools' match. Gareth Davies, Ed Johnson and Matthew Purdy are also to be applauded.
