A clutch of club records have been smashed by young swimmers at the North Norfolk Vikings Swimming Club.

Ten long-standing records tumbled during this year's Club Championships, which took place at The Victory in North Walsham.

Senior swimmers Mollie Smith, Tom Owen and Emily Bowyer took eight club records between them: Mollie in the 100m individual medley, 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle; Tom in the 100m individual medley, 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley and Emily in the 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle.

Mollie and Tom have been made club senior captains for 2015.

Also club record breakers were Matilda Meyrick (50m butterfly) and Harry Barwick (100m breaststroke). Both were made club junior captains for 2015.

The five record breakers weren't the only ones in the spotlight at this year's club presentation night, held at Rossi's in North Walsham. Armfuls of trophies and medals were handed out to a total of 68 swimmers, marking either their successes in the Vikings' Championships or achievements during the last 12 months.

Head coach Chris Searle said: 'We're so proud of every one of our swimmers. They've really made fantastic progress this year.

'The club is all about having fun, building strength and confidence and belonging to a great team. Our presentation night showed what an amazing team we now have.'

As well as awards for winning races or breaking records in the club championships, Vikings swimmers picked up a range of club trophies for their commitment and progress over the year.

The Carter Trophy for best runner-up (boy) went to Billy Life and the Phillips Trophy for best runner-up (girl) was awarded to Mollie White. The Hampson Novice Awards for junior endeavour went to Matthew Rogers and Matilda Meyrick. Liam Blatch and Tom Owen shared the Senior Endeavour Cup (boys) while Mollie Smith took the Senior Endeavour Cup (girls). Liam and Tom also shared the award for most improved boy while most improved girl was Abi Gotts. The Teacher's Trophy (boys) was awarded to Christopher Haslam and the Teacher's Trophy (girls) was awarded Emily Haslam.

The Debbie Tubby Cup for breaststroke was won by Hetty Life, the G&J Solutions Cup for freestyle went to Amber Cushion, the Cromer Car Centre Cup for back atroke went to Lorne Balfour and the DS Building Services Cup for butterfly was awarded to Mollie Smith.

There was special tribute paid to outgoing Charlie Crafer who has done so much to get the Vikings back on an even keel.
