Plans are under way to reignite youth football in North Norfolk.

The past 10 years or so has seen a dramatic decline in participation, both at youth and adult level, and the new initiative is aimed at arresting this downward momentum.

Since the amalgamation of the North East Norfolk Youth League, South Norfolk Youth League and the Norfolk Youth Combination to form the Norfolk Combined Youth Football League several local managers and coaches have voiced their concerns over travelling distances and some of the teams have been overwhelmed by their counterparts from Norwich.

Initially it is intended to provide mini soccer for under-sevens and under-eights, playing Saturday mornings in a secure and safe environment for teams from villages and towns in North Norfolk together, with teams of lesser ability from North Norwich also taking part.

The success of this venture depends upon the response from clubs who, in the first instance, are asked to contact Leon Howard at leonhoward62@yahoo.co.uk.

A positive outcome would result in a meeting of interested parties and the formation of a committee to further the project.

At senior level North Walsham Town hit the goal trail in Division One of the Anglian Combination, hammering Loddon United 11-1 at Greens Road. Dale Wilton led the way with four goals while Matty Downing and substitute Connor Kerry netted twice and Matthew Payne, Liam Clarke and Tom Wylie were also on target.

The Angels round-up off their campaign with a home match against Attleborough on Saturday needing a point to secure a top six finish.

Already relegated Holt put in a decent show in their final game at Scole, only to lose it in injury-time when young striker Kieran Manning raced through to score the only goal of the game.

In the top flight the end of the season can't come soon enough for relegated Cromer Town after losing two more games while conceding 21 goals.

The Crabs were hammered 12-2 at home by Caister in midweek and then went down 9-0 at title-chasing Harleston Town on Saturday. Still on zero points, Cromer round off a testing campaign that they are at least completing with a home game against Harleston next Wednesday (7.30pm).

Stalham Town failed to hold on to a half-time lead as they went down 3-2 at home to Acle United in their penultimate fixture, with Dan Crosby and Jordan Tipple getting the goals.
