By all accounts the venture was a success in that it allowed yet more combinations to be tried out and a couple of new faces introduced to the squad.

Unfortunately the change meant that with additional players required to travel, the second team fixture with Fakenham had to be called off, but there are hopes that it can be rearranged for later in the season.

This Saturday provides the final opportunity for the coaches to have a look at their probable starting line-ups for the season's opener against Sutton and Epsom on September 5.

The visit of Southend - who are bringing their first and second strings to Scottow for full-on 80-minute games - will give close on 40 players the chances to show their ability.

Relegated at the end of last season after just two years in National Two, the Seasiders should provide just the sort of competition the coaches require at this stage of the season. Kick-off at Scottow is at 3pm and admission is free.
