North Walsham had a must-win fixture on Saturday – and duly won it to give themselves some hope of avoiding relegation from the Premier Division of the Anglian Combination.

The Angels went to fellow strugglers Hempnall with a run of 10 successive defeats behind them and seemingly in free-fall. But they returned home boosted by a hard earned 1-0 success, with Alex Fitzgerald's crucial goal taking them out of the relegation zone at Hempnall's expense.

The south Norfolk side still have a game in hand on Walsham, who only have three more matches left to play, but at least the Angels now have a fighting chance of staying in the top flight and will be aiming to build on the timely win at Greens Road on Saturday when they play host to fourth from bottom Wymondham Town (2.30pm). They are at home again on Wednesday, with Sheringham providing the opposition (7.30pm).

In Division One Holt had a day to forget when they were beaten 5-1 by promotion chasing Long Stratton, with another goal from Shaun Steed proving to be no more than a minor consolation. The Owls look reasonably safe, with a six point advantage over second from bottom Bradenham, but could do with a win or two just to make totally sure of their place in senior football and have a decent chance of registering one of them on Saturday when they host bottom side Watton (1.30pm).

Aylsham's apparently serene progress at the top of Division Two came to a shuddering halt at the weekend when they were beaten 3-0 at Mundford. Brian Clark's side remain six points clear at the top of the table but will be well aware that there are several sides who could overhaul them by winning all their games in hand. Aylsham will be glad to see a run of away fixtures come to an end this weekend but it's another tough game, with in-form Bungay, who are now second in the table, providing the opposition (2.30pm).
