In hot conditions, three teams of North Norfolk Beach Runners ladies ran the Alex Moore relay at Skeyton on Sunday.

This is a relay for teams of three around the village from the Skeyton Goat public house organised by Norfolk Gazelles in memory of former club member and RAF corporal Alex Moore, who died in a sky diving accident in 2003 at the age of 24.

The first runner does one lap, and distances of 2.2 miles, and the second and third runners two laps - 4.4 miles - followed by a single lap by all three runners together.

The North Norfolk Beach Runners Ladies' Masters team, comprising Annette Boreham, Rachel Robson and Karen Balcome clocked 1.51.19 for 11th place in category, while the the club's ladies' lenior team made up of Shelley Burton, Emma Alright and Katherine Wright went even faster, at 1.44.16 for fifth place in category.

The Beach Runners' contingent was completed by the Jen Hamilton Emery, Vicky Las, Becky Garratt ladies' senior combination who went the distance in 2.03.29 for ninth place.

Meanwhile North Norfolk Beach Runners had 13 athletes among 314 finishers of the Mike Grove 10km race, a fund-raiser for the East Anglia Air Ambulance at the former RAF Coltishall air base.

First Beach Runner home and in 21st place overall was John Fagan in a time of 39.33, while John Gay was 23rd overall in a time of 40.30, not bad for a 50-something.

Other notable performances came from septuagenarian Brenda Kinch, 226th overall in a time of 58.33, and Lesley Winston who dipped and pipped fellow Beach Runner Amy Worley to 265th place in 1.03.55.

Ed Bovington of Istead and Ifield Harriers won the race in a time of 33.25 while Allan Lee of Sevenoaks AC was breathing down his neck in second in 33.33. The event was superbly organised by Coltishall Jaguars.

Earlier 18 Beach Runners were among 177 who ran Chase the Train, which follows the line of the Bure Valley Railway from Aylsham to Wroxham, a distance of 8.9 miles.

This is a fund-raiser that NNBR organises for the charity Carers' Trust Norfolk, which provides help, support and relief for full time carers.

Last year the event raised £1,800 and it should be roughly the same this year.
