Norfolk’s Lauren Hemp has been named England Young Player of the Year at the Football Association’s annual Women’s Football Awards night, held at Wembley.
The 17-year-old former North Walsham High School pupil is now a striker for Bristol City Ladies in Women’s Super League 1, following her move west to be at SGS College while playing top-flight football.
And Hemp’s performances for both Willie Kirk’s first team Vixens squad and England Under-17s saw her rewarded at Wembley ahead of three fellow nominees.
The talented Bristol City forward captained John Griffiths’ Under-17s squad at the European Championship finals in Czech Republic, as well as scoring in their win over Republic of Ireland.
Hemp beat Birmingham defender and England Under-23 captain Aoife Mannion, Under-19s striker Ellie Brazil and another captain, England Under-20s’ World Cup skipper Grace Fisk.
