Sallaal continued his progression through the ranks adding the Group Three Betway Rose of Lancaster Stakes to his career haul and teeing up a possible tilt at the highest level in the Qipco Champion Stakes.
The Roger Varian-trained Frankel colt followed impressive handicap and Listed successes with this Group Three prize under jockey Ray Dawson, stretching away from Sea Scout to win by a length and three-quarters.
“It’s probably the slowest he has ever been in a race but he behaved really well and we are delighted with this horse’s progression,” said the winning jockey. “It was kind of a sprint for the last three-and-a-half furlongs and he is not a sprinter, he is more of a stayer.
“He stays very well and has a good cruising speed and as soon as he felt Oisin (Murphy) come to me (on Nahraan) he has run on and was hard to pull up. It will be exciting to see where he goes.”
Sallaal holds entries in the Group One Champion Stakes at Ascot as well as the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp.
Dawson added: “He is going the right way and Roger has trained him perfectly this season – he hasn’t jumped too high too early and he has progressed from a big handicap to a Listed to a Group Three. There are options for him and I’m sure whatever decision they make will be the right one.”
