FOR this third round tie in the Norfolk Senior Cup, Holt were without McGilway, Sanders, English and Steve Thompson. Making his debut was 16-year-old Tom Wharton. Two goals from Kevin Moore sealed the win.

On a perfect playing surface both teams started brightly with a good-size crowd being entertained with some good football.

The Owls struck first when, after a good build-up, the ball fell to Moore who blasted the ball past Webster.

Again Alan Gravenor was causing his marker all sorts of problems and from one of his crosses Moore powerfully headed into the back of the net.

The visitors pulled a goal back on 32 minutes when Bloomfield scored with a superb curling shot from the edge of the box.

Right on the half-time whistle Watton saw a hopeful cross strike a Holt upright and rebound to safety.

The second half turned into an

end-to-end encounter. Holt looked the more likely to score next. Robin Webdale and then Gravenor failed to convert good chances.

The visitors' dangerman Nichols was largely kept in check by the excellent James Medlar and Gavin Neale. On 73 minutes Moore, after a superb run, tamely shot straight at Webster. Then a shot from Luke Williamson was saved well. With time running out the visitors claimed a penalty but referee Chapman refused.

In injury time Toby Blowers broke clear, but with Webster up for a corner he failed to add to the Owls' lead just before a hard-fought encounter ended.

Overall, a good win that must have pleased manager Jason Hawkins and his backroom staff.

On Saturday Holt are at home to Loddon United, 2.30.
