West Norfolk Under-15s 12 North Walsham Under-15s 42

NORTH WALSHAM'S youngsters reached the semi-finals of the Arnolds Norfolk Under-15 Cup when they beat the side they saw off in last season's Under-14 final.

Having soaked up the early pressure, Walsham steadily worked their way downfield with a series of good phases.

A quickly taken penalty close to the West Norfolk line opened up space and Dylan Simmons came through from full back to score. Dylan's conversion went close but was unsuccessful.

Good work by the forwards then won turnover ball and this allowed Joe Girling to break through the defence for Walsham's second try. A series of penalties against West Norfolk kept them on the backfoot and some excellent work by the forwards close to the try line was capitalised on by Alex Codd, who drove over from close in.

As half-time approached West Norfolk found a new lease of life and eventually a forward was able to force his way over for a deserved try. However, almost immediately, Walsham bounced back, with the ball going through some excellent handling by both forwards and backs before reaching Greg Wills, who sprinted clear to score a fourth try before the break.

In the second half West Norfolk reduced the arrears with a converted try before a host of penalties caught up with them and one of their players was shown a yellow card.

Walsham took advantage of this and the forwards, with Max Grimmer and Josh Bayley making particularly good breaks, turned the screw.

Simmons went over for his second try which he converted and then another series of well executed phases led to Girling also going over for this second try of the game.

Louis Lamont then charged over to score before an excellent break by Harry Dye opened up the West defence and when he was stopped just inside the 22, Lewis Dorling was able to finish off the move.

As evidenced by there being six different try scorers, this was an excellent performance from all of the team, with every player providing a positive contribution. It certainly shows the value of having a good sized squad of talented and committed players.

Walsham will now have to take this performance as building block to work on for their semi-final against Wymondham, who beat Diss 20-0.

n North Walsham's Under-13s bowed out of the competition when they were beaten 52-0 at home by Wymondham.
