Hotshot Jamie Gilbert hammered home a nap hand of goals last Saturday in the North East Norfolk League but amazingly he finished up on the losing side.

Gilbert was the only player to find the net for Runton in the REW Subsidiary Cup tie at Division One strugglers Dilham, whose goals from Bedon (3), Eden (2), Matthew and Hinds secured only their second victory of the season and a place in the second round.

“It was touch and go whether the game went ahead following the downpour, but we are glad it did and the result was more than welcome for our team who haven't won a single league point so far,” declared Dilham club chairman and Cross Keys pub landlord Trevor Hardingham, who is reported to have lavished a round of drinks on his victorious lads.

The cup holders, Coltishall, came through with a 6-2 victory over Erpingham, an excellent performance considering Coltishall play in Division Two while Erpingham are title chasers in Division One. Coltishall scorers were Joy (4), Douglas (2).

The other results in the weather-hit cup programme were Gimingham defeating Cromer YOB 4-3 while Briston beat Blakeney 2-1.

The great shock in the Optic Benevolent Cup third round was the exit of the holders Lyng, who were beaten by Mundesley by the odd goal of five, the winners' marksmen Williamson, Davis and Holden.

Bodham also made the fourth round with a 4-2 win (Morgan 3, Watson) over Holt A.

Only one league game was completed, in Knights Trophies Division Three, where Gimingham Reserves beat Hickling Reserves 4-2.
