WROXHAM Reserves put in a gusty performance at Lowestoft Reserves on Tuesday night when they fought back from a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 and earn a point that left them requiring five more to clinch the Sterry Cup.

A brace from Colin Wines and a third for Paul Cook put the Dolphin Autos Anglian Combination Premier Division leaders in front, but the young Blues netted a late equaliser, writes Roy Webster.

Wroxham team boss Mark Wilkinson said it was an excellent point considering they went out with a scratch team. “Our regular keeper Jackson was called up for first team duty and we had a bare 12 on the team sheet. I'm happy with the result, and I believe that we can win this title with just one more victory because Hempnall and Cromer still have to meet each other,” he said.

At Sheringham the first team players who had performed at Carrow Road in the Norfolk Senior Cup Final were given a day off because some of them were facing another cup final in Sunday football.

And the Shannocks' second string gave an excellent performance to hold visitors Dersingham to a goalless draw.

Manager John Cowalyk said: “Some of the lads were involved in the Sunday Senior Cup final with Delaneys, so we excused them on Saturday. It must have paid off because they finished on the winning side.”

Cromer Town's game at home to Sprowston Athletic was postponed, but they visit Blofield this Saturday.

In Division One, Holt United beat Wymondham Town 3-1 (Edwards 2, Moore) to maintain their three-point advantage over Loddon who still have three games in hand after beating Stalham 1-0. The Owls are five points ahead of Watton who have two games in hand.

In Division Two, Reepham achieved a goalless draw with Wortwell while in Division Six Hoveton Wherrymen continued to head for promotion after hammering Holt Reserves 5-1.

Wroxham Reserves are without a fixture until they entertain Acle on Tuesday, April 15 while Hempnall - who can catch the young Yachtsmen - visit Hindringham on Saturday.

The big decider between the two challengers Cromer and Hempnall comes on Saturday, April 19.

But by that time the young Yachtsmen may have become champions, for they visit Dersingham that day.
