North Walsham's match at Foulsham on Saturday was cut dramatically short when midfielder Jonny Davison picked up a nasty injury.

With just 12 minutes of the Anglian Combination Division One fixture played, and the Angels already 2-1 up, Davison went down in agony after going in for a challenge on the sodden surface.

As concern for the player's welfare grew the referee made the decision to abandon the match – and it was then a case of keeping him as comfortable as possible until an ambulance arrived.

Davison was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where X-rays revealed he had suffered no break, but had seriously damaged ankle ligaments.

The injury looks certain to keep the midfielder out of action for a considerable length to time – and, more importantly, it will hamper him at work at a time when he has just set himself up as a self employed plumber.

The match will have to be replayed at a later date, with the goals scored by Grant Johnson and Dale Wilton being wiped from the record books.

It was a much happier day for three other North Norfolk sides in Division One, with Aylsham, Sheringham and Holt all recording impressive wins.

Aylsham have been going great guns since moving to their new base at Youngs Park and made it four wins and a draw there since the switch when they recorded a 3-2 win over a Loddon side who had beaten Sheringham 7-0 in their previous fixture.

Goals from James Oliver (2) and William Abbs earned Aylsham another three points which lifted them to third in the table, behind second placed Bungay only on goal difference, with leaders Waveney six clear with four games in hand on their rivals.

Sheringham beat Bradenham Wanderers 4-2 and remain well placed, four points behind Aylsham with three games in hand.

Holt, who were bottom of the table not so long ago, maintained their recent fine form when they won 3-0 at Bungay to make it three wins on the trot. Jacob Doy (2) and Lee Clarke were on target as the Owls moved six points clear of the relegation places.

Stalham suffered a surprise 3-1 home defeat against Hempnall (Lawrence Cheese).

In the Premier Division Cromer Town returned to action after a string of postponements due to waterlogged pitches. They travelled to bottom side Scole United and came away with a 1-1 draw courtesy of a first-half goal from Darren Terrington. The Crabs go into the festive break in eighth position with 18 points from 12 matches.

All Anglian Combination clubs will have a break on Boxing Day, with some returning to action on January 2 and others on January 9. Forthcoming fixtures: January 2: Poringland Wanderers v Sheringham, Stalham v Aylsham; January 9: Cromer v Harle
