Football fans can watch the World Cup sitting at a huge grandstand in front of a big screen in the front garden of a Dereham pub.

Paul Sandford, landlord at the Railway Tavern in Yaxham Road, said: “Four years ago we had a stand, but on a smaller scale, and we needed more space. “This time we’re hoping to get 500 fans watching England games at the pub. It’s been a fairly costly scheme, but it’s had the desired effect with all the publicity.”

He’s fairly confident that England will do better this time.

He added: “The previous campaign, we went into it with high expectations. This time, nobody really expects anything, so the team might be able to get out and play. I cannot see any reason why we cannot get to the semi-finals, and then it’s just 90 minutes. Thanks to Nap scaffolding, near Diss, for doing all the hard work.”
