The 11th annual Kingswood Festival for minis held over two weekends at Holt Rugby Club was a big success.

Some great rugby was enjoyed by 132 teams from 23 clubs, with a total of 1,252 players participating.

The clubs travelled from Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Essex, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire.

Kevin Kendle-Weavers, a business manager at Barclays, was one of the volunteers on the barbeque and was able to present £1,000 to Holt RFC as part of the Barclays Community Matchfunding Scheme, where employees are encouraged to support the community.

A bucket collection was held on both Sundays and the club were very grateful to all the visitors for their generosity. A total of £500 was raised, of which the East Anglian Air Ambulance will receive £250.

Last year, a young player from Stamford RFC was seriously injured in an accident on his journey home. The other £250 is being donated to a fund for the youngster himself.

There are now plans to hold a youth rugby festival at Bridge Road in October to coincide with the Rugby World Cup (for ages 13-17).

The rugby season starts again in September and new players are always welcome. For more information visit the Holt RFC website or email miniyouthmembershipholtrfc@gmail.com

There was a derby in the final of the Under-11 competition, with North Walsham beating old rivals Holt by three tries to one in an excellent final.

Fly-half George Loose said: “The team played their best rugby of the season with some fantastic tries, some lovely ball handling and great team spirit “
