Holt retained the Banham Cup following a closely contested game which was befitting of an end of season local derby.

Fakenham have just completed a successful league season, which gained them promotion, and looked the more confident of the two sides in the first half.

They led 15-13 at half-time through two tries, a conversion and a penalty, while Holt kept in touch with tries by Phil Davis and Sam Wright and a penalty converted by Ben Harvey.

Holt were much more in control in the second half and restricted Fakenham to a try and a penalty. In response Holt ran in three tries from Jim Riley, Ashley Woods and man-of-the-match Bruce van Poortvliet in addition to a penalty and a conversion. The game saw the return of Iain Young to first team duties while some of the club’s up-and-coming young players saw some action.

The cup was presented by H.Banham Ltd, agricultural merchants based in Hempton.
