Holt 16, Wisbech 10

Holt entertained play-off hopefuls Wisbech and denied them the double.

Holt played with the breeze for the first half but had to defend for the first quarter and had a let-off when Wisbech missed a penalty after 25 minutes.

Holt were awarded a penalty after 32 minutes, from which Allen made no mistake.

Wisbech hit back and their flanker scored a try with three minutes of the half remaining. The conversion missed.

The second half started with Holt again under attack and after two minutes the Wisbech right- wing scored a well-taken try for 10-3. Gibbs scored from a forward drive and with Allenon on target with the conversion, the score was 10-10.

Holt were now beginning to believe in themselves and although the game ebbed and flowed, most of it was played in the Wisbech half.

Bruce Van Poortvliet made an excellent break which took him within the goal line and although a try did not materialise, a penalty was gained.

Allen put Holt 13-10 ahead. Holt defended their cause very well and when Wisbech were again penalised Allen increased the lead to 16-10.

This win consolidates Holt's position of fifth in the league table, having won 11 and lost eight.

There is one league game to play on Saturday, away to Lowestoft & Yarmouth, who are one point above Holt and again the incentive is to gain revenge for a home defeat suffered last November.
