Holt 1 Aylsham 0

Holt took the honours in this Anglian Combination Division One derby clash thanks to a late penalty from Chris Fuller.

The Owls, who have been struggling for results of late, were looking for revenge after a 5-2 battering at Aylsham on the opening day of the season.

The match got the go-ahead from the referee after snow, hail and rain throughout the day.

Holt were without centre halves Kevin Moore and Gavin Neale, with Moore facing seven to eight weeks on the sidelines. Matt Warnes and skipper Matt Sanders took over while under-18 player Phil Sands filled in once again at right back.

The match started well for Holt as Matty Hudson, Chris Fuller and David Coyle created numerous chances. The Holt side held possession well but were unable to break through.

The second half began with Aylsham doing most of the attacking with a number of stoppages due to fouls, cards and injuries. Holt were unable to attack consistently, with the elements beginning to take their toll. The Holt back four withstood the Aylsham attack along with solid goalkeeping from Tom Harvey.

In the 80th minute Fuller was brought down inside the box and a penalty was given. He got up to slot home his 17th goal of the campaign to secure the three points for Holt.

It was an important win for Holt after the sluggish start of 2013. Matt Warnes was the man of the match. He hasn't played much at centre half but you wouldn't have guessed it from his performance. He came up with some brilliant tackles.

Holt's next two matches are away at Watton United and Horsford. Watton needed Holt to go down to nine men to beat them 1-0 in their last meeting. The Owls need to string some wins together to put some distance between themselves and the bottom of the table.
