EVER since Jim Hayes joined the North Norfolk Beach Runners, the county's veteran athletes have become accustomed to chasing Jim's trademark ponytail around Norfolk's race circuits.
This week's visit to the second race of Great Yarmouth's Five- Mile Series gave Jim his second first Over-60 win of the week following on from his prize-winning at King's Lynn just three days earlier.
It also puts the North Norfolk veteran in pole position for the Runners Centre Grand Prix
prize for the best performance over the season.
Jim's time of 32:34 for the seafront run brought home in for an excellent 45th place.
Meanwhile, the comparatively youthful Jeremy Bolam had a welcome return to form with his best five-mile time in three years, beating several rivals to the line in the process of clocking 30:27 for 22nd place.
Trevor Emery and Ryan Callaby had a tremendous battle for 60th place, Trevor just holding off the younger runner with a strong finish to record 33:43.
Further down the record field of over 200 runners Ian Jarvis and Geoff Hayward were separated by just a few seconds for 116th and 118th place respectively.
Other Beach Runners enjoying the early summer sunshine and, for Yarmouth, a reasonably
light wind, were Rob Emery, Jonathan Folkard, Susan Foye and Ross Howe.
